How to find a wedding hair & makeup artist

Hey, so here i will explain my best tips for helping you find a wedding hair and makeup artist:
Finding the right artist for your wedding can be a challenge. You want to find someone who is talented, does the hair styles or makeup looks YOU want and wear, has a nice personality (you will be spending hours on your wedding morning with this artist so make sure you get on) AND who is available for your wedding date.
Here are my tips for you:
Firstly, have a look on Pinterest for makeup or hair styles you would like, look for hair styles in your hair colour (blonde, brunette, dark etc). Gather some images or start a mood board, so you can narrow done what you like or dislike about certain trends and styles. Perhaps you want a modern style so look up modern wedding hair.
Ask your friends and family if they can recommend a wedding hair and makeup artist, perhaps someone they used for their own wedding, or a friend who used the artist and the hair style lasted well into the evening. If they recommend an artist, have a look at the artist’s portfolio work to make sure their style fits with yours.
It’s no good if your aunt’s hairdresser can do an amazing vintage hair style if you would like something more boho and braided and this said hairdresser cannot do a relaxed hair style.If you’ve been a bridesmaid and loved the artist who did natural bridesmaid makeup for you, its an obvious idea to send the artist a message to check their availability.
Another option is to search on Google using relevant words for a local artist in your area and read their google business reviews. For example search ‘natural wedding makeup artist in Kent’ or ‘boho wedding hair stylist in Kent’.
Look on Instagram for any artist’s in your area or search by hashtag ie #weddinghairandmakeupBexley #weddingmakeupartistLondon
Ask your photographer if they know bridal hair and makeup artist, its more than likely they have worked on styled shoots and have a little black book of artists.
When you have found someone’s style you love, send them an email (including your mood board) or give them a quick call. Most artists will be happy to have a quick chat before you commit, as the artist will also want to make sure you are both the correct fit for each other.
As i said earlier, you will be spending quite a few hours with the artist on your wedding morning. You want to find an artist you click with, perhaps you have things in common, alot of my clients LOVE dogs, so we always end up chatting about our favourite animals. Find someone trustworthy, fun but also calming (ive just described myself).
Wedding stylists can be booked up to 18 months in advance. If you have a wedding booked but no artist, start looking now, it’s never too early to book.
Once a quote has been agreed and you are happy to book, the artist will require a non refundable booking fee – this is for your benefit to secure and hold your wedding date. If your artist does not ask for this, walk away as no respectable business will confirm a booking without a booking fee.
